A charitable trust

MWG is a charitable trust (Registration Number 294993) that was set up in 1985 out of a concern among evangelical Christians to address gender issues from a Biblical perspective. Theologian John Stott, Rector Emeritus at All Souls, Langham Place, London, and writer / broadcaster Elaine Storkey addressed our inaugural event.

There has been major progress since those early days. But many women still find that they are marginalised in their places of worship. Wrong assumptions about gender roles of men and women still need challenging in many churches. We want to give you support but we need your help too - so why not join us?

Partner organisations

MWG is delighted to operate in partnership with Re-turn (Ellenarmstrong@onetel.com), a dynamic network of young adults which aims to motivate and equip a new generation to live out a Biblical perspective on gender equality and justice. We have worked with the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity (www.licc.org.uk), and the Anabaptist Network (www.anabaptistnetwork.com). We have strong links with our US sister organization Christians for Biblical Equality (www.cbeinternational.org) and AWESOME (Anglican Women Evangelicals: Supporting Ordained Ministry) (www.awesome.org.uk).

Our services

We provide bulletins, a discussion forum via this website and we can be readily contacted via email. These offer information which include papers, personal stories and book reviews. Regional and national conferences give us an opportunity to meet whilst furthering and challenging our thinking. Topics range from interpreting (but they are difficult to interpret!) New Testament passages about leadership and women, to the contemporary challenges for Christian women and men living in the 21st century. Many members find these to be an inspiration and support - especially those who feel isolated because of their church's perception of the Biblical teaching about gender.  We also liaise closely with Christians for Biblical Equality.
